  • 1.  Predicting 7.4's End of Program Support.

    I'm predicting IBM announces End of Program Support for IBM i 7.4 within 45 days.  They'll give you one years notice so I'm predicting it will take effect 2026-09-30.

    Now you'll need to decide to either upgrade, pay extra for extended service, or whatever.
    Something to think about as budget time approaches.
    Prediction based off of:
    IBM sent multiple updates today about this page so I'm guessing the runner is getting into the starting blocks.  
    Didn't make the usual Tuesday morning announcement though.

    Hi Robert,
    Good guess, but prediction not met: +45 days of your post would have been 2025-10-06.
    But still no announcement, even though we are on the following Tuesday 2025-10-09.

    Actually my prediction was very accurate.  Perhaps you missed it since they stopped calling it EOS or End Of Service and started calling it "Change in service level".  See Christian's response below.  I'd guess if you plan on running 7.4 on a Power 11 you'd better order that quick.

    no need to guess. IBM has already announced a "Change in service level" for IBM i 7.4: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/announcements/withdrawal-from-marketing-change-in-service-level-i-74-portfolio-additional-withdrawals-offerings-features#ariaid-title5. The date is indeed September 30, 2026.
