first, there is a dedicated GPFS forum, you might find more help there (http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/forums/forum.jspa?forumID=479&start=0)
Now, why would you like to mirror an already protected data (Ds8000 formats disk packs into RAID5 or RAID10 groups before creating the LUNs?
I've read that some people migrate to GPFS on a single node because it is faster than JFS2, I don't have references but you could check with the IBM GPFS Competency group.
