The central management facility leveraged by version control/status system is the intent to roll out other configurations to PA for Excel as well, but that expanded utilization is not yet available.

Agree with George that this is not ideal.
A suggestion. I think settings like this would be better managed centrally or at least have the option of managing centrally with perhaps an override in the local json file . Given version control can now be managed centrally I would have thought this would be possible. .

yes, very soon.
we [recently] posted a fresh notice in the what's new for PA for Excel that the default will be switching.
https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/planning-analytics/2.0.0?topic=2fum52-upcoming-change-notification-planning-analytics-microsoft-excel-default-webview2
release labels are fairly fluid until release, but this is imminent and i would encourage anyone who would like to discuss it further with us to reach out asap; it is a long time coming.

Subject: PAW and PAfE UI alignment
Does anyone have insight into when PAfE will show the same style/carbon set editor and cube viewers by default?
Right now to align the two so that users have the same experience, we need to update the tm1features.json file with the below:
{ "r74_EnableWebView2ForAuth": true, "EnableWebView2ForCarbon": true}
On PAfE 2.0.87, if I remove the above, I then see the old style/classic views.
This becomes problematic rolling out to new clients/users as without updating the tm1features.json, they have an inconsistent experience.
Edit: PAW Administration now shows that Upgrade explorations to new experience is due in Enablement release: 89
Will PAfE 2.0.89 align and no longer require the enabling of the features too?
