    Do I need any terminator or cable re-route of any kind?

    Where is this message that you see? On the HMC? When you open a virtual terminal?

    It almost sounds like you are trying to use an external console, this is not supported when you use an HMC and you should click on the LPAR and select open a virtual terminal console in the HMC to get a console window.
