    Hi, 

    I have an ibm i hosting another ibm i on a nwsd. Which one should be upgraded first? any other requirements?

    Dear Michael

    I really have no idea but if I were you, I would do release upgrade for the client IBM i LPAR before the host LPAR.   My reasoning is that if NWSD is somehow changed for whatever possibility by the new OS release, then upgrading the host LPAR before the client may cause the client to be in trouble, especially if you plan to do release upgrade for each LPAR in different timeframe.

    I've been through this a bazillion times.

    RACK#HST - Hosting partition for a few guest lpars of AIX and IBM i.

    ERPGUEST - Main production ERP lpar

    SANDBOXGUEST - test lpar

    DEVGUEST - Development guest

    SANDBOXGUEST gets updated first and verifies everything.  Often I will DEV, ERP, HST all on the same weekend.  Starting with the guests

    Never an issue.  No FUD needed.

    Now I'm just down to one Power 9 with IBM i hosting IBM i.  Our Power 10's no longer user a hosting lpar as we've gone to SAN storage on them.
