  • 1.  New Navigator for I tailor access for users?

Hi.  Is the New Navigator for I something that *users can use?  And if so, how does one tailor it for users so that when they login all they see is the "My Work" group of functions?

Hi. You may customize the functional usage ids within the Application Administration for this. See https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/6485853 (IBM Navigator for i - Function Usage IDs)

You may also present them with a list of URL's specific to the actions desired
    http://gdihq:2002/Navigator/mainframe/bo/messages
    http://gdihq:2002/Navigator/mainframe/bo/printer-output
Granted, they will still see options to the left for dealing with Users, etc.  However if that is a concern you might want to take *ALLOBJ and *SECADM away from them so they really cannot do those tasks.
What it boils down to is there are a million ways to perform a task and if you keep trying to stop the methods instead of securing the data in the first place you have a rough game of whack-a-mole ahead of you.

I believe that users need one of two authorities to use this tool (at least in v7.4) --

    *ALLOBJ, or

    QIBM_NAV_ALL_FUNCTION access allowed.
