I downloaded the newest firmware and burned it to cdromm but when I go to the boot menu and select "1. Service Processor Setup Menu" and then option "7. reprogram flash EPROM" it then tells me it's unsupported. I'm totally at a loss and can't think of any other ways to work around/fix this.

I have another box(7038-6c4) is it possible to upgrade the firmware on that and switch out the service processor?

I don't have an hmc installed and am doing this over a console, and I don't think I can call ibm as I'm sure it's out of support.

    TIA!

I don't think your idea of swapping the service processor will work because there is both system and service processor firmware that needs to be updated.

If so did you check that all the hardware / adapters are supported on 5.3?

Some SSA and graphics adapters were dopped at 5.3!

If you can rule this out then connect up a dumb terminal and use the service processor menu and the boot mode menu to either boot to SMS or to set the default service mode boot list to boot from CD.
