    I just noticed that the new MWS 9.6 server posts the encrypted password onto the process list.
    Is that SAFE or is this a BIG mistake and a config file should be used???

    the mechanism is safe if you talk about SIN(Security Infrastructure) in MWS.please refer following documentation for SIN mechanism .Please let me know is this helped you to understand more on security part .
