  • 1.  Moved p510 to HMC from serial connection, no ability to type in terminal for LPAR

When I go to open a vterm on the LPAR, at the Console Login Screen it will not accept input from the keyboard. If I do a mkvterm from the command line on the HMC to SSH in that way, same results.

So the terminal looks like this:

    Open in progress
yy <- a couple odd characters
    Open Completed.
    AIX Version 5
    (C) XXX XXXX
Console login: <- NO Input here at all.
    Anyone have suggestions?

I could see the managed system fine, but could not open a virtual console. The Factory Configuration resets the Service Processor and zaps any IP addresses (will look for a DHCP address), firmware settings, and passwords (goes back to default admin/admin). It will likely take down the LPAR if it's running.

!!! This is not something to do without consulting IBM support first. !!!

Also a good idea to make sure both the p5 firmware and HMC code are supported under the matrix. I've found issues where code mismatches cause unusual problems.

There may be a better way, but this worked for me.

    HMC- 5.2.1
    510 - SF240_219

I'm thinking we are going to have to take a server outage as suggested and reset the SP as previously mentioned.
