  • 1.  Metadata: Who published what and when?

    Posted Tue September 17, 2024 03:04 AM

    Good day,

Our APIC platform is currently on v10.0.5.7.

Throught the Cloud Manager, we offload API Audit events to a third party solution. Once these audit events have been offloaded, is it still possible to get metadata like published_by, updated_by and timestamps for these actions for all API Products and Apps that were published or created?

I'm trying to use the REST APIs to get the metadata, but can't seem to get the published_by and updated_by data for any of the APIs or Products?

    https://apic-api.apiconnect.ibmcloud.com/v10/10.0.5.LATEST.html#/documentation/introduction

    Any help will be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hey Rosh,

    Thanks for reaching out!

From what I understand, you're trying to get the published_by and updated_by metadata for your API Products and Apps, but running into trouble with the REST APIs.

A couple of things you could try:

    1. Check the audit logs – Since you're offloading events to a third-party solution, some of this metadata (like who published or updated an API) might only show up there. Have you checked if the logs from your third-party tool capture that data?

    2. Lifecycle events – API Connect usually tracks lifecycle changes (like when something is published or updated). It's possible this info is available in the admin dashboard or audit logs in the Cloud Manager. Sometimes it's a matter of finding the right place to query.

    3. API version – Make sure you're using the latest version of the API. Older versions might not support all the fields you're after, or they might need a specific request to include those fields.

If none of this works, you might need to dig deeper into IBM's documentation.

    Cheers

    Hi Orlando,

Thank you for your response. The third-party tool does provide audit trails, and we are able to retrieve them from there.

I was considering an alternative approach in case we need to disable the offload to the third-party solution or stop using it entirely. I was wondering if there are any other approaches to retrieve the full audit trail from day one.
