Map Manager Settings for MAS Manage 9

  • 1.  Map Manager Settings for MAS Manage 9

    Posted Wed November 13, 2024 01:32 PM

    Hello

We are investigating the use of Scheduler / Optimiser to replace our use of external systems. One of the factors that will need to be considered is travel time.

I am attempting to setup a map provider in Manage 9, but I believe my options are limited to OpenStreet and ARCGis (ESRI). I am struggling to find documentation that covers setting this up in Map Manager 9, specifically which basemap urls to enter to be able to access public providers so that travel times can be calculated in scheduler. Also do I need to set up keys / accounts with these providers and how are these stored inside Manage.

Thanks for any pointers on this.

    Andrew

    Hi Andrew

Yes, this information can be hard to find, I don't know why! You can just use ArcGIS Platform inside Map Manager and have basic map services rendered. Please see settings below.

    Geocode Service URL

    https://geocode.arcgis.com/arcgis/rest/services/World/GeocodeServer

    Route Service URL

    https://route.arcgis.com/arcgis/rest/services/World/Route/NAServer/Route_World

    Map Services

    Name: World

    URL: https://basemaps.arcgis.com/arcgis/rest/services/World_Basemap_v2/VectorTileServer

    Order: 1

    Name: Hillshade

    URL: https://services.arcgisonline.com/arcgis/rest/services/Elevation/World_Hillshade/MapServer

    Order: 2

    Services Tab

    Geocode Services

    Name: GeoCodeServer

    URL: https://geocode.arcgis.com/arcgis/rest/services/World/GeocodeServer

    Geometry Service

    URL: https://sampleserver6.arcgisonline.com/arcgis/rest/services/Utilities/Geometry/GeometryServer

Out of the box in Manage, I always thought that one needs Spatial installed to get the maps to work (which btw does work, without subscribing to any external services). Your message above gave this idea to keep the OpenMap as a Map Provider and use ArcGIS as Open Map Provider with Route Service URL of arcgis you shared. Well, it works. I see map pop up in my Assets. This is the first time I have not installed Spatial and got the maps to work.

Logically, with OpenMap, the Open Street should be working. But it does not (may be I don't have the correct URL for Open Street).

    Thanks

I'm partially getting there in the MAS 8 and MAS 9 environments I have access to the only URL I can enter in Map Manager when I select Open Map with Arc GIS is the Basemap URL. If I enter the World URL (https://basemaps.arcgis.com/arcgis/rest/services/World_Basemap_v2/VectorTileServer) I can get the Map Initial Extent to open a map and a zoom and it sets zoom level etc in Map Manager. However if I open the Map tab on any app e.g. Service Addresses I just get a grey tab with a line at the top. Am I using the wrong url - are there some settings somewhere else to enter the other arcGIS urls specified in Aneesh's post.

    Thanks again
    Andrew

    Hi Andrew

Are you using Spatial? Please note that I use the settings I gave you with the Spatial add-on (I select Spatial as my Map Provider). I do this because I need map services on Maximo Mobile and you need Spatial for that. I have not tried them on an environment without Spatial, but according to Arif's message it may still work.

    Best Regards

    Aneesh
I don't have Spatial installed just want the map piece to work in Maximo and hopefully provide a way of doing travel time calcs in scheduler / optimiser. Thanks.

    Hi Andrew,

Grant permissions to maxadmin and maxeveryone for the specified object structure. Refer to the logs for more details.

    • MXAPIMESSAGE

    Restart the pods then test.

    Hi Arif

You will need Spatial if you want to access maps from within Maximo Mobile.

    Best Regards

    Yes, you're correct.

@Andrew, if you install Spatial add-on, you'll get the Map service. I may have likely just stumbled upon a half-baked solution of getting Maps to work without Spatial (and as Aneesh said, it won't work for Mobile).  PS: the bing and google maps services are no longer there in Manage 9.

    Arif

Which MAS / Mange version are you running? In Map Manager with Open Street / ArcGIS selected only see a Basemap URL option - can you confirm if this what you see and please confirm the exact url you are seeing.

    Many thanks

    Andrew,

The documentation for Maximo Spatial is listed under IBM Maximo Spatial Asset Management documentation not under Maximo Application Suite.  Holdover from legacy 7.6 product marketing. There you can find the latest documentation on how to set up Map Manager.   Also you started this thread with reference to using Scheduler and need to identify Travel time.  @Lacey Lurges has some great videos on Scheduler. Here is one: Maximo Scheduler - Graphical Assignment - Run Optimization to Dispatch and View Routes on the Map. She also knows a ton about Spatial and in my mind is one of the thought leaders in IBM on that topic.
