Hi all,
I am a bit frustrated. One of my clients is having a rather simple problem and I run into further problems while resolving it.
What happend:
Due to firmware maintenance the customer switched the PowerHA clustered LPARs to the second site but did shutdown the NIM LPAR, because there is no second NIM in the other datacenter. After upgrading the firmware the customer powered everything on and everything came up w/o any problems, but the NIM partition. This partition stopped with an 554 LED code. Rather simple, as I said: I just have to boot from CD/DVD/NIM and recover by running bosboot (for whatever reason the NIM servers hd5 is corrupt, I guess, the filesystems are already checked and w/o problems).
BUT now the follow-up problem:
My customer inserted a DVD 6100-02, the NIM was installed 6100-06-?-1043. The maintenance shell found the disks but could not chroot into the AIX environment (due to unresolved symbol problems). Obvious. I need a matching media TL6 to do this (and trying to use bosboot from the TL2 DVD while trying to link any missing file from the mounted disk resulted in more difficulties than I wanted to resolve).
So I went to IBM PartnerWorld and downloaded 2 DVDs: 6100-06-01 (base, DVD1) and 6100-07-04 (base, DVD1). We inserted both one after the other and found the LPAR finding the disks but NOT AIX: AIX is not finding ANY SAN disk with neither DVD.
From my point of knowledge, TL2 is the minimum requirement for virtual fibre channel and there is really NO reason I can see why these official TL6 and TL7 DVD should not be able to connect via vFC adapters, but as the booted images from the DVDs do not see ANY disk (not only the rootvg is missing but all SAN storage), there must be any fundamental problem. At least one with my knowledge.
Could anyone PLEASE reply? I'd be happy to have any idea or new information before monday.
Thanks a lot in advance!
Thorsten
