    instead of 6100-07

    I ran "oslevel -r -l 6100-07" and got this:

    Fileset Actual Level Recommended ML ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- devices.pci.14108c00.rte 6.1.4.0 6.1.7.0

So, I ran "lppchk -v" and got this output:

lppchk: The following filesets need to be installed or corrected to bring the system to a consistent state: devices.pci.14108c00.rte 6.1.7.0 (BROKEN)

OK... I'm now at a loss...

    What do I do...???

I'm fearful of just "trying things" without advise because this lpp is a "pci device"...
I'm not an Admin, just a developer, and I've never had problems applying TL or FPs.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Either go see if it's on your OS Cd's or go find it at Fix Central to get it then install it. (6.1.7 is the level you want)

    Good luck.

This coincides with the output from smitty:

Could the problem be that I'm trying to install an "UPDATE", as opposed to
    installing an "initial lpp"...???

So, I went back to the original install media, and re-installed from there... with OVERRIDE ... lo and behold it worked...
I rebooted, and went back and applied the TL07 update, and it worked.

Thanks for all of your help.

the reason you got this message is that you need a .toc file in the directory where the filesets are stored. move the current one out of the way and run the command inutoc . to put the .toc file in the current directory.

Is this what you just installed? If so go look thru the list of filesets and see if you see it on the CD or in the download you got. Install it if you see it. Or go to the link above and get it.

This is the reason why your oslevel isn't reporting the correct version of OS. Just like the message told you.

Your installation technically didn't fail but the 6.1.4 version of your pci isn't consistent with what is needed for the OS level you are now running. It won't crash the system or anything it's just not quite right.

Once you install it your lppchk should run clean and you should see the correct oslevel output.
