Hi, there are several pieces of setup to labor approvals. The process is meant to support a supervisor reviewing and approving labor before the labor becomes an actual charge on the work order.
1) In the Organizations application you can choose whether or not you want to have a labor approval process for internal and external labor. Go to Organizations, open your Organization and choose Labor Options.
2) In the Security Groups application you can control which labor records a user in a security group can see.
3) In the Labor Reporting application, you can review and approve labor. If you have the correct security settings to allow you to view the labor and approve it. This setup supports a supervisor (or similar role) to review and approve labor for folks they supervise. You can't check the approve checkbox in the Work Order Tracking application - this process occurs in Labor Reporting.
If labor is external (contractors), you can also create an invoice for approved labor in Labor Reporting.

My organization has changed the default labor actuals setting so that inside labor transactions don't get automatically approved: Changing Labor hours in the Actuals > Labor tab in Work Order Tracking
Scenario:
I want to approve labor actuals right in the Actuals tab in WOTRACK. But I've noticed that the Approved field in labor actuals is read-only.
I understand why the Approved field would be read-only once the record is approved. But I don't think the Approved field should be read-only while the record is unapproved, especially since the rest of the fields in the record are still editable. I think supervisors, with the appropriate security in place, should be able to approve labor actuals right in WOTRACK. And not need to switch to the Labor Reporting application in order to approve the labor actuals.
Questions:
1. Why would the Approved field in labor actuals be read-only? (record is still unapproved/editable)
2. What mechanism in Maximo is responsible for the read-only restriction? The field isn't set as read-only in Application Designer. So I'm not sure where that restriction is coming from.
3. Note: If I change the Input Mode in Application Designer from blank -to- Default, then the field appears to be editable in WOTRACK...the checkbox isn't greyed-out anymore.
However, in reality, the field seems to be broken. Records that were approved are showing as unapproved (incorrect). And for records that truly are unapproved, if I try to check the checkbox, nothing happens. The checkbox remains unchecked.
Either that, or I am able to check the box, but the save button is greyed-out, so I have no way to save the change.
Any ideas?
