    No, it is not. AIX only works on RS/6000 (older versions of AIX) and pSeries machines. These are POWER and PowerPC architectures.

    It's too bad that IBM doesn't have a version of AIX on zSeries -- it would be an interesting combination. FWIW, they did have a version of AIX for the mainframe years ago (early 90's?). I think it was called AIX/370.

    There is word on the street that IBM is working on getting AIX to run on Z. In fact IBM has just announced that now SUN Solaris will run on the new Z10 box along with linux which is supported on the older Z boxes as well.
