Is It possible change the default installation path (/usr/z1090/) in Linux?

    Hello,

        I would like to know if is possible changing the default RD&T Linux installation path from /usr/z1090/ to other path.

    Hi Sergio,

    The short answer is, I believe,"no".

    The install consists of several parts placed into the Linux file system in different places.  If you move one part of the install to a different place you would need to reconfigure the other parts as well - then do it again if you apply service or an upgrade.  I don't think this is practical or recommended.

    Why do you want to move this one piece?

    Hi JavaPoet, and thank you for your answer.

    Changing this installation path for RD&T is not mandatory for us, but in our site we have already stablished some rules and standars for our AIX systems, our first Linux is this one dedicated to RD&T, and we would like apply our Unix politics to this new Linux server.

    One of this rules used for recovering from Back ups is that in /usr only could be installed software base and the rest of products must be installed in /opt, /var/opt , /user-HOME, etc..

    This is the reason of my question.

    I make different tests changing the path and using "links" to the new directory, but that did not work and other test, and of the problems was the eDMosa emulation, this connection emulation did not start...

    For your comment I already know is not recommended changing this installation path, but somebody can give more detail about why this product needs /usr/z1090/bin as installation path, and why is not recommended change it?.

    Hi Sergio,

    Unfortunately I am not privy to all the design decisions that lead to where the product will be installed and even if I was it is unlikely that I would be able to share them with you, I am certain you understand.

    For now though what you have are the current constraints of the install.  If you would like to see this become more flexible in the future I would suggest that you open a Request For Enhancement (RFE) at the IBM Software RFE Community http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/rfe/
