VIOS 2.2 installation media is present in HMC DVD drive, but when I run installios, specify all needed client informations (static IP configuration) and proper public HMC ent for the installation, finally I get error:

Do you accept the license agreement? y/n: y /bin/cat: /etc/dhcpd.conf: No such file or directory ERROR installios: command
'/bin/cat /etc/dhcpd.conf' failed to execute properly:

Is this defect of HMC or I am doing something wrong?

Please note (what is common in HMC) I do not have root access and only hscroot.

ok, I did the trick to skip this HMC bug.

because I didn;t have (because I don't use) any internal provate HMC network and no DHCP (all managed systems are accessed with static IPs over public network HMC ent), so I had to configure fake DHCP on one of unused ent's on the HMC (btw. even not network cabled) - but it created the /etc/dhcpd.conf file and helpded to skip the error.

Please also note that also /media/cdrom had to be unmounted manually after the first installios which failed - because another error after dhcpd.conf issue was "fixed":

mount: block device /dev/cdrom is write-protected, mounting read-only
mount: /dev/cdrom already mounted or /media/cdrom busy
mount: according to mtab, /dev/hda is already mounted on /media/cdrom
ERROR installios: Could not mount /dev/cdrom

But knew i had a future problem how to recover from a VIOS crash. Making a nim_resources.tar which you can deploy from "installios" also. Although "mine" vios servers where already installed tried the dhcp trick on a "ghost" vios partition and the installation started.

    Hello.

I would suggest to simple create the file (/etc/dhcpd.conf) within your HMC.

For this you will need to login with HSCPE user, get access to Restrict Shell which will need a Pesh Password(Only IBM support can give you the pesh password.).

After that you will have root access and will be able to create and edit files if needed.
