Hi Manoj,
My name is Deepak Kohli and I am an IMS Product manager.
First, IMS Catalog does not need an IMSPlex.
If the IMS Catalog is defined in your IMS system, it is defined in the Catalog section (<SECTION=CATALOG>)
of the DFSDFxxx Proclib member. With the parameter CATALOG=Y.
Also, another way is to issue the following type 2 command: QRY DB NAME(DFSC*) SHOW(ALL)
The output will show if you have any databases defined that begin with DFSC.
The catalog database name is DFSCD000. There is an option to change the prefix of DFSC in the DFSDFxxx proclib member but most people don't have that implemented.
Since you are just starting out in IMS, I'm sure you may have more questions.
I have some IMS Fundamentals videos out on the web. That may be good place to start for an introduction on IMS.
Feel free to reach out to me directly if you have further questions.
My email is
deepakk@us.ibm.com. We can even setup a webex call if you like.
Take care.

Subject: IMS Catalog
Hello All,
My project has IMS DB V15.1 . I am being asked to support IMS , my primary skill is Db2 zos support.
As we do not have IMS Support staff ,everyday I am exploring IMS System.
Documentation available is very minimal. There are challenges but ok IMS is interesting it is fun to explore.
Coming from Db2 background , my question is how can I see IMS catalog is created/exist for our IMS DB system ?
Does IMS catalog also need IMS Plex setup ?
Regards,
Manoj K Jadwani
