ILMT - DB2 Restricted licensing for a fixpack Upgrade on Linux

  • 1.  ILMT - DB2 Restricted licensing for a fixpack Upgrade on Linux

    Posted Thu October 15, 2020 04:21 AM

    I installed ILMT using All-in-One installer. I have a single server setup with the db2 database shared between the License Metric Tool server and the BigFix server.

    I will be upgrading License Metric Tool server to version 9.2.20 from version 9.2.17

    Prerequisite to the LMT upgrade is to upgrade DB2 to 10.5.0.11

    Current: DB2 v10.5.0.5 Upgrade: DB2 to version 10.5 FP11.

    Fixpack: 2195849678 Jul 29 14:55 v10.5fp11_linuxx64_server_t.tar.gz

    Current License installed: db2licm -l

    Product name: "DB2 Workgroup Server Edition"

    License type: "Restricted"

    Expiry date: "Permanent"

    Product identifier: "db2wse"

    Version information: "10.5"

    Max amount of memory (GB): "128"

    Features:

    IBM DB2 BLU Acceleration In-Memory Offering: "Not licensed"

    IBM DB2 Performance Management Offering: "Not licensed"

    IBM DB2 Encryption Offering: "Not licensed"

    IBM DB2 Business Application Continuity Offering: "Not licensed"

    Pre-Upgrade Questions

    1. Should the command ‘ps -ef | grep db2licd’ return anything. I get no result (as root) ?
    2. Should the current license be terminated before I do the actual upgrade using the command ‘db2licd -end’ ?

    Post Ugrade Questions

    I am assuming ‘db2.10.5.fixpack11/server_t/db2/license/db2wse_t.lic’ is my new db2 license

    1. Do I have to run command ‘db2licm -a /.../db2wse_t.lic

    License Concerns

    Current Parameters New Parameters

    LicenseStyle=nodelocked LicenseStyle=compound nodelocked

    TryAndBuy=No TryAndBuy=Yes

    DerivedLicenseStyle= DerivedLicenseStyle=nodelocked

    DerivedLicenseStartDate= DerivedLicenseStartDate=12/28/2012

    DerivedLicenseEndDate= DerivedLicenseEndDate=12/31/2037

    DerivedLicenseAggregateDuration= DerivedLicenseAggregateDuration=90

    1. From the above parameters it seems that the new license is a TryandBuy trial version valid for 90 days. Is my understanding correct ?
    2. If I apply the new license after the upgrade my assumption is that DB2 V10.5.0.11 will stop working after 90 days ?
    3. Do I have to apply the new license once I have done the upgrade or will my current license still function correctly ?

    Any help is greatly appreciated as I have spent a lot of time looking for explicit documentation on licensing with the restricted 'DB2 Workgroup Server Edition' that comes with ILMT and what steps are required when upgrading DB2.

    Hi Joseph,

    Thanks for asking, I had quite forgotten about this post due to the lack of a response, but I did get past this issue.

    I didn't have to do anything with the license as it was only an upgrade within DB2 V10.5.

    The existing license remained as the current license.

    As this was my first post in the forum do I need to close off this thread ?

    Cheers

    David - Thanks for responding .... after a few days of work and a support ticket or 2 we figured it out -- your post helped as it made me look at our issue a few different ways. Support and the web basicaly kept saying " just download the file and run this command " - no one was ever specific to which EXACT file i needed and then that i needed to pull out a *.lic file ..... then apply that license file - LOL

    here was my fix;

    it took a few days but we figured it out -- The issue where DB2 needs to be activated after upgrade of DB2 for newer versions of ILMT and BigFix

    ( we still have an issue where ILMT will not complete a " Data import " - IBM case # TS008553309 )

    2 days ago, we updated ILMT to 9.2.26 and DB2 to 11.5 and the import is not working since. The error we're getting is:ERROR: Errno::ENOEXEC: Exec format error - "/opt/ibm/LMT/cli/../wlp/usr/servers/server1/bin/compressor/bzip2" "/opt/ibm/LMT/cli/../wlp/usr/servers/server1/data/sam/public/catalogs/CIT_catalog_WINDOWS.xml"

    DB2 license fix ......

    the key to my issue was to find the actual downloadable file, thru IBM passport advantage, that would give me the " activation license file " so that we could properly activate the IBM DB2 that ILMT needs.

    i found the file thru ibm passport advantage.

    well it took a few days but i think i got it

    - a few IBM support tickets to grant us access to use IBM support site

    - a few ibm support tickets for help with IBM db2 license activation and downloads

    buried in this link is a file - out of about 30 files , that actually has a license file that looks to be applicable

    IBM Db2 Enterprise Server Edition PVU Option Activation V11.5.4 for Linux UNIX and Windows Multilingual (CC6L2ML)

    find the ACTUAL license file, get it on the server and run -- bigfix11:/opt/ibm/db2/V11.5 > db2licm -a /home/db2inst1/possible_V11.5_license/lic00000005.lic
