servers , 36 GB hard drive 1 GB Memory , No VGA Card ,
i also bought ( 9 pin serial RS232 to USb converter ) to connect it
to the laptop i am planning to use hyper terminal , after connecting
to the laptop , the laptop doesn't detect the USB i mean it doesn't
display ( New Hardware Found ) to install the usb-to-serial port
    driver ,

1- i am confusing why the laptop is not detecting ..?
    really I am wondering .
2- is there is another way to connect to the server ?
3- i have to buy PCI 2D graphics adapter ? if i buy it is it going to
work ? or there is restriction ?
4- and one more thing the server operator panel display ( 9411 \ ) what is this mean ? is this mean there is no OS ?

    thanks in advance

    • you have a garbage laptop, or a garbage OS on the laptop, or (more likely) a garbage 9 pin / USB serial converter. Some USB converters work well, others are garbage. I'll let you decide which type you have.

    • even if you get the 9 pin / USB converter to be recognized, don't expect it to have the correct NULL modem pinouts needed to run a serial terminal off the p630. You'll most likely need to wire a true NULL modem cable between the p630 & your USB converter. Good luck with that.

2- is there is another way to connect to the server ?

    • a graphics adapter or yeah, an HMC would work. But the HMC needs to be the old serial attached HMC. Good luck finding one of those.

3- i have to buy PCI 2D graphics adapter ? if i buy it is it going to work ? or there is restriction ?

    • the graphics adapater is probably not needed if you can get the serial attachment to work. If you buy one is it going to work ? I have no idea. Are you feeling lucky ? Got a compatible display, mouse & keyboard to go with it ?

    • you need to do your own due diligence. I suggest you look up the 9411 service code in the p630 Service Guide & follow IBM's recommendation.

    Good luck.

    1. If the system fails to progress after this checkpoint is put in the display, do the following:
    a. Activate the service processor pinhole reset switch on the system’s operator panel.
    b. If the hang repeats, check with service support to see if there is a firmware update that fixes the problem.
    c. If not, or the update does not fix the problem, replace the service processor/PCI backplane, location: U0.1-P2.
    d. If this procedure does not fix the problem, call service support.
