  • 1.  IBM iSeries DB2 ODBC driver for ARM based laptops

    Posted Tue July 01, 2025 09:35 AM

I have two laptops. One is intel and the other is an ARM based one. On the intel series I am able to install and use the DB2 iSeries 64 bit driver. However on the ARM based laptop I am not able to create a System or a User DSN. The db2cli validate -dsn does work on the ARM based laptop. Is there a ARM specific ODBC driver available ?

ARM is a different architecture and instruction set than Intel; Microsoft ODBC administrator compiled using ARM instruction set is calling setup routine in Db2 ODBC driver compiled using INTEL instruction set; hence the system error 193.

I doubt whether there is an IBM Db2 ODBC driver compiled using ARM instruction set nor whether there are any plans to create one - you may want to raise request using AHA process.

    You are correct.

At the moment there is no driver for ARM processors.

However there is hope.   With 12.1 there is at last a decent option for MacOS (Apple Silicon), driven by lots of requests.   So raising an AHA and getting it signed as widely as possible is a good thing.
