IBM i call home: Does it get consolidated when multiple LPARs on a machine?

  • 1.  IBM i call home: Does it get consolidated when multiple LPARs on a machine?

I have 4-5 LPARs of IBM i on each Power system.  When I restart a system I have each LPAR do a SNDSRVRQS ACTION(*TEST).  I am only seeing one entry appear

Is there something at IBM which says to ignore these if multiple LPARs from the same machine send them in at once?

Rather stinks for testing after doing something like removing 5770-UME because it became obsolete in 7.5 once you have the right PTFs applied.

    Hi Robert.

Just in case it helps to you.

I actually have an open case with IBM about a problem with call home from the HMC, and among other things, the technician said the following:

"We've observed several similar events with the PMH number showing as DUP00000000. This behavior is expected, as multiple Call Home tests were performed.

IBM systems include a mechanism to prevent excessive reporting of the same SRC within a short timeframe, helping to avoid overwhelming the ticketing system. In cases of actual issues, the data would be linked to an existing case. However, test events are automatically closed, which explains the behavior you've noticed."

We were baffled by the problem, because it seemed to work randomly but... it was really the excessive testing we were doing that was causing them to fail.

    Regards
