  • 1.  How to understand linear by linear association

    Hi!

I am looking at a result from the linear by linear association, value 15, 264 but further down it is written that the standardized statistics is 3,907. What does that mean?

And how can I convert the results of the linear by linear association to a chi square test for trend?

    See this page.

Note also that you can get a generalized version of this test from the GENLOG procedure

Thank you for your answer Jon!

I have already checked that page actually but I still have not found an answer about the standardized statistics. In the output from Crosstabs there is a note regarding the linear-by-linear association that says: Standardized statistics and then a number. Does anyone know what that is?

I don't see that note in the Crosstabs output. The linear-by-linear test is the Mantel-Haenszel test, a chi-squared test. The formula is detailed in the Algorithms manual under CROSSTABS.

That is weird. I see it as a footnote, regarding the linear-by- linear association, just below the table with the output results from the statistics of the cross tabs. Has anyone else experienced that or know what it stands for?
