How to remove a license

  • 1.  How to remove a license

    Posted 21 days ago

I have a product appearing in the list at https://youribmi.yourcompany.com:2003/Navigator/mainframe/cfg/license-info?sortField=licenseExpiration&sortOrder=1

I do not have it loaded.  Why it got here I haven't a care.  I want it gone because it is expired and causes undue concern.

The first time I ran this, no message, after that it tells me the license key was not found.  However, it's still on the list at that site.  The product does not appear in

    10. Display installed licensed programs

    DSPSFWRSC

It does appear on WRKLICINF.  There is no option 4.

    If I have this appearing:

What options do you use?  I've tried the following and it's still there

    QSYS/RMVLICKEY LICKEYINP(*PROMPT) PRDID(5770SS1) LICTRM(V7R6M0) FEATURE(5
    120) SERIAL(*LOCAL)
    License key information not found.

    QSYS/RMVLICKEY LICKEYINP(*PROMPT) PRDID(5770SS1) LICTRM(V7R6M0) FEATURE(5
    120) SERIAL(*ALL)
    License key information not found.

    QSYS/RMVLICKEY LICKEYINP(*PROMPT) PRDID(5770SS1) LICTRM(*ALL) FEATURE(512
    0) SERIAL(*ALL)
License key information removed for 5770SS1. (license term V7R4M0 serial number  214405V)
License key information removed for 5770SS1. (V7R4M0 serial number  7805730)
License key information removed for 5770SS1. (license term V7R5M0 number  7805730

    Yet it still appears...

And it still shows up in

    SELECT * FROM QSYS2.LICENSE_INFO
    WHERE LICENSE_EXPIRATION <= CURRENT DATE + 50 DAYS;

Was this partition restored from an older one? If so, you could try with the serial of the older system. See note at end of this document:
QALZAL0001 in library QUSRSYS is a duplicate

Kurt, this has been through multiple migrations.  But I didn't have that file in the technote.

    Hello Robert,

Walked the same path as you are doing now. Did also open a IBM Support case. I curious if the outcome of your case will result in the same answer.

Mine was, that it is impossible to get rid of it.

    I'll keep you posted.

Odd thing, you can run the following and that key will not appear

    DSPLICKEY SERIAL(*ALL) OUTPUT(*LICKEYFILE) LICKEYFILE(ROB/TEMPLICKEY)

Because, yes, I was thinking of modifying that output file (400+ rows of old migrations, previous releases, etc), blasting the current license file and using something like ADDLICKEY LICKEYINP(*LICKEYFILE) LICKEYFILE(ROB/TEMPLICKEY)

This probably has to do with the "new way" that IBM does the licence updates on Power VS or for subscriptions. I have an assumption that there are two places where licences are checked , one which everyone knows *(QALZALIC) and then a hidden one which is being read from the SQL view : LICENSE_INFO.

Would be interesting to see what the outcome would be.

    Rudi,

I have a solution from IBM.  It's ugly.  But simple and effective.  Simple as one command line entry.  It will be different because of your S/N.  Point IBM to case  TS020785864 for a resolution

I have discovered something.  Doesn't solve this issue but it's interesting.  After running numerous RMVLICKEY to delete obsolete versions, products, etc.  I was able to successfully run RGZPFM FILE(QUSRSYS/QALZALIC)  even though it's flagged as such.  Makes sense, but still interesting.  Hopefully IBM doesn't rely upon these flags with files accessed by RRN only.
