With IBM i you do a WRKSYSVAL QUPS* and work with those two values to adjust how much time to wait after getting the power failure message from the UPS in order to shutdown.  I did a power test on our big Leibert UPS and after 20 minutes of run time it said I still had at least 70 minutes of juice.
However the lpars of VIOS and AIX had already shutdown.  I want to adjust those times.
So, to me it's obvious that it is getting the signal from the UPS power warning cable.
Neither me, nor our consultants, loaded any special power warning software.  It's just using the stuff that ships with AIX and VIOS.
