  • 1.  How to access the descriptions texts?

    Posted 17 days ago

    Hi,

We want to get a list of reports, dashboards, data modules and packages with their description texts. I assume we can get this by the REST API. Further they will be somewhere in the Content Store tables. Does someone know a SQL to get this? Are there other (easy) ways I didn't think of? As far as I know the descritions are not incliuded in the AUDIT or MotioCI packages.

    Best regards,

    Philipp

    Hello Philipp,

You can use the free version of MotioPI to get a list of reports from Cognos, and the report's properties, including the Default Description, are available to view and export.

    Thank you,

    Abbas

Hi @Abbas Alnamar, Thanks a lot!

Hi @Paul Mendelson, That brings me to the question if the CogBox also has an export of a report (etc.) list including the descriptions?

Best regards and have a nice weekend

    Hi Philipp,

maybe this simple SQL helps already to get you access to the information needed.

    SELECT
      n.NAME AS ReportName,
      d.VALUE AS Description,
      l.LOCALE
    FROM
      CMOBJECTS o
      INNER JOIN CMOBJNAMES n ON o.CMID = n.CMID
      LEFT JOIN CMOBJPROPS3 d ON o.CMID = d.CMID
      INNER JOIN CMLOCALES l ON d.MAPDLOCALEID  = l.MAPDLOCALEID
    WHERE
o.CLASSID in ( 10  ) -- 10  class ID for reports 19 for report views etc. --> see CMLASSES table
    ORDER BY
      n.NAME;

This gives you a list of all reports  and their descriptions in all available translations/language codes

Change the CLASSID Filter for other objects of the content store

All available CLASSID types you can find in CMCLASSES table of the Content Store.

    hope this helps.

    Hi Philipp,

if you would like to use SDK: CoCoMa can extract all reports in all folders, extract users, extract Roles and Rights.

We lately added extracting deployments, sending them to another server together with deployment instructions.

Here is the source code: https://github.com/AMVARA-CONSULTING/cocoma

    The documentation: https://github.com/AMVARA-CONSULTING/cocoma/blob/master/documentation/cocoma_documentation.pdf

Let me know any issues you encounter.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Ralf,

Thanks a lot. Again I'm impressed of your solution. Unfortunately we don't use the SDK yet. But I'll keep that in mind.

Best regards and hope to see both of you soon

    Philipp
