Help with merging 2 datasets including 594 key variables

  • 1.  Help with merging 2 datasets including 594 key variables

    Posted Wed March 02, 2022 09:16 AM

    Hey everyone,

    I am trying to merge 2 datasets:

    • Dataset A: includes 491 observations and 5 594 variables;

    • Dataset B: includes 236 observations (all already included in Dataset A) and 594 key variables already in Dataset A but without any values, except for the ID variable. I made sure that key variables all have the same name, label and length.

    However, when I try to merge the 2 datasets using the 'one-to-one (key values)' option, my IDs are duplicated.

    Any idea what's wrong?

    Thanks a lot for your help!

    Hi. It sounds like values of the key variable are not unique within one of the files (not across the two files). Check the MATCH FILES command's TABLE subcommand; that might be what you need, perhaps for Dataset B.
