  • 1.  GIM and S-TAP for Windows Server 2003

    Posted Mon November 18, 2019 09:27 PM
    Hi All,

At this time I'm deploying a new installation of Guardium 11.0 on a several database servers. I have one problem with a server that has MSSQL and OS Windows Server 2003. I try to install the Guardium GIM 11.0 on this enviroment, but the installer sent a message that this doesn't work in the enviroment.
What is the recomendation to connect this server to my collectors and Agregators?

    Regards,
    Carlos Espinoza

    Hi Carlos,

I'm afraid that IBM only supports platforms which are current at the time of release.  As Windows 2003 went end of life in July 2015 this is not amongst the platforms supported by Guardium v11, which is why you received the error.  You will need to upgrade your platform to one which is current in order to be able to install Guardium v11.

For a list of currently supported platforms please refer to the Guardium v11 Supported Platforms database:
    Guardium supported platforms database

    Hi Chris,

Thank you for your answer, I understood, but it is possible manage security using an old version of GIM and/or S-TAP with the Guardium 11 enviroment?

    Hi Carlos,

I'm afraid that Windows 2003 hasn't been supported by Guardium for a long time, version 9.1 being the last version that was certified to work with this and this version is also now out of service.  Unfortunately this means that there aren't any supported combinations that will work with this very old version of Windows.

Well, I know the risk that I will take. I will try to make a RFC to change the platform of database, but there are many people and will be a long way to do.
    Thank you Chris.

Windows 2003 is not supported.  Please check the link below for all of the latest information.

    V10.6

You will have to go back a few versions to support 2008 R2.

There is also one more possibility.
If OS is not supported by WINSTAP we still can monitor remote sessions by SPAN and E-STAP.

    Hi,

Windows server 2003 is not supported by Guardium v11, you will need to used the older version of Guardium agent that support Windows server 2003.

And, Windows server 2003 has been EOS by Microsoft for quite some time. Even Guardium v9.5 is not supported Windows Server 2003. And, Guardium v9.5 will be EOS next year.

So, is recommend to upgrade the Windows server 2003 to latest Windows version.

    regards,
