Thank you for your installation of the IBM eServer p5 system. The eServer p5 is acknowledged as a leader in the information processing industry in customer satisfaction and reliability. We're always striving to work with you for even higher levels of both.
One of the most important things you can do to maximize the reliability of your system is to take advantage of the updates and fixes which are available. Even if your system and application set are running perfectly, there may be updates that can provide for increased system availability.
You should take advantage of this capability with these three important steps.

    1. Build a plan for periodic installation of Operating System Critical Fixes, Maintenance Packages and Firmware Updates on your eServer p5. A good strategy is to install the cumulative fixpacks on a quarterly or semiannual basis, and to install the fixes identified as HIPER (High Impact Pervasive) as they become available.

    2. If you're not presently current on firmware, install HIPER fixes at your earliest opportunity. The latest release of p5 firmware, Release 01SF230_145_120 of the Licensed Internal Code (LIC), is now available. Upgrading to the latest level of firmware provides numerous reliability and serviceability enhancements to the eServer p5 systems. Please install 01S 230_145_120 (or higher if available when upgrading) and its co-requisites soon. (If you have not previously installed a new firmware release on a p5 system, see http://techsupport.services.ibm.com/server/mdownload or please contact SupportLine for assistance.)

    3. Utilize the no-charge pSeries Subscription Service to receive notification of technical bulletins and updates for selected products or topics of interest. Subscription Service provides a great way to get very timely information on the topics you've indicated are important to you and your business, helping you to make decisions on updates which may affect you. Sign up at https://techsupport.services.ibm.com/server/pseries.subscriptionSvcs

These three steps can provide a solid basis for maintaining your eServer p5 at a more optimal level. If you haven't loaded the HIPER fixes recently, you should plan to do it soon. Take advantage of these improvements that can help avoid problems before they occur. It's an availability step that everyone should be using.

Note: All eServer pSeries systems will benefit from a regular schedule of software updates. Instructions for down loading and installing the HIPER fixes are available in the IBM eServer pSeries Information Center. Go to http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/pseries/index.jsp. Select 'Fix Central (pSeries, AIX)' and then make the appropriate selections in the pull down boxes for your system and follow the prompts.
