I have noticed that if I do a smit update_all using a TL or maintenance update distribution things are added; but nothing
is removed. This adds a whole bunch of junk I did not want.
To the best of my knowledge "smit" will not remove anything
that has dependencies unless one selects the option to do so.
(I believe the same is true for rpm.)
If you are referring to third party applications
dependencies you probably have to call IBM and
the third party software support to find a solution
to the problem.
If you are referring to rpm dependent applications being
removed. I have not encountered this before; but I have
been told that IBM sometime replaces certain rpm packages
with their own version. I believe they just over write
the files with their version without going through rpm.
This could cause a dependency problem with certain
rpm packages. The solution here is just to reinstall
the rpm packages that contain the dependencies.
(Not sure about IBM support's support for this
situation. IBM does not support the toolbox.)
