    Manufacturer................IBM

Installing from DVD, after about 485 filesets the following errors appeared:-
    installp: APPLYING software for:
    bos.mp64 5.3.9.1
CoreRead Failedrestore: 0511-126 Cannot open /tmp/SPOT/installp/ppc/bos.mp64: There is an input or output error.
    Mount volume 1 on /tmp/SPOT/installp/ppc/bos.mp64.
Press the Enter key to continue.
0503-405 installp: An error occurred while running the restore command.
    Use local problem reporting procedures.
    installp: CANCELLED software for:
    bos.mp64 5.3.9.1

After processing the 1055 filesets, it then processed another 442 filesets but with the
    following occasional errors:-
    installp: APPLYING software for:
    sysmgt.help.it_IT.websm 5.3.0.0
    restore: 0511-126 Cannot open /SPOT/installp/mvCD/vol/ppc/sysmgt.help.it_IT: 0503-405 installp:
An error occurred while running the restore command.
    Use local problem reporting procedures.
    installp: CANCELLED software for:
    sysmgt.help.it_IT.websm 5.3.0.0

The install completed successfully but took over 9 hours when it should only have taken
2/3 hours. The DVD had previously been used on other migration upgrades.
After the install, there were no device errors on the system.
What might have caused these errors?

    First things I would check:
    • enough disk space and more
    • nothing in the error log and no hardware issues
    • is all your firmware up to date
    • are all your devices supported
    • can you mount and completely copy every file form the media - "There is an input or output error." usually does mean a device problem.
    • as it complains about bos.mp64 - do you have 64 bit hardware?

Best of luck with this large jump in AIX releases, N
