  • 1.  Fail to install V9.5

    Posted Mon May 30, 2016 09:31 AM

    Dear all,

I want to install V9.5 on openSUSE 13.2. Unfortunately I fail. The previous version was working like a charm. I followed the instructions to remove the V9.1.

However using the lauchpad.sh with kdesu ./launchpad simply does nothing. It seems that firefox would be started but this does not happen.

Trying to install with launchpad-console.sh fails with the error message given below.

I also tried to run this with V1.8.5 Installer but with this version the script complains that an installer is already on the system and trying to install RDT simly with the installer fails because no repository is found.

I must say that this situation is absolutely unsatisfactory!!! Why the hack there is no simple rpm file? Why all this Rational software is so complex???

Is there a workaround for this situation?

Thank you very much in advance.

    Hi Florian,

I'm sorry to hear that you are having trouble with the install.  It could be that you are running into issues with launchpad.  Can you try doing a silent install, which will by pass launchpad, the steps to do this is documented in the  Install and Configuration guide in Appendix C.  Hopefully this will get you up and running.

    Regards,

    Rick

    Hi Rick,

I did quite a hack. I replaced the V1.8.4 InstallionManager with V1.8.5. There are several XML files (e.g. install.XML) needed to be copied ifrom the original iso Image. In install.xml the Version of installer needed to be updated.

Interesting thing is that in other XML files the version of the installer seems not be taken into consideration.

With this preparation I managed to install RDT with the launchpad-console.sh.

In the GUI version the invocation of Firefox still hangs. I realy don't see what this is doing.

Also kdesu is crashing when invoked as described in the installtion instruction. There is previously a export $(dbus-Launch) needed.

I would like to emphasze that there is no specific or wierd Installation or customisation done of openSUSE 13.2.

Personally I think the whole Installation process of RDT provided by IBM is simply an overkill. Traditional ways such a simple Batch script installing the rpms would be much more efficient than providing a whole JAVA/eclipse  Environment simply for the Installer!!

    Kind regards,

    Florian

    Hi Florian,

I had the same issue, but resolved it by following the local fix notes contained in APAR PI55180.

Add the following line to the config.ini file:im.suppress.unsupported.platform.check=true

Hope this helps anyone else with this issue.

Like fbi_ranger, I also can't install RD&T V9.5 with OpenSUSE Leap 42.1.  I need more detail on how to fix this.  When I mount the .iso image to try to modify config.ini, it fails, even with su.  gedit comes up in read only mode.  So if I can't modify the .iso image, what am I supposed to do?  Am I supposed to copy all the files on the .iso to disk and then reburn the CD?  This thing will not run from the .iso image I have currently.
