    two questions;

    1- What is your current code level?
    2- Raid5 or DRaid5?

    unfortunately Raid5 arrays cannot expandable. If it's DRaid5 (distributed raid 5 array) you can expand it with expandarray command

    yes, you can do that but you don't need to create new pool, you can add 3 disk Raid5 to the same pool.

    Hi @Nezih Boyacioglu

                                              That means, is i add the new disk to existing pool , it won't be parts of RAID , ti will just recognize as a single disk in a pool ? because i don't have draid to add disks ?

    Advance thanks .

    Best regards,

    Viresh

    Hi Viresh,

    as soon you select "Add Storage", the wizzard which is getting opened will assist you, creating a new MDisk based on the number of disks you select (in your case 3), and will add this new MDisk to the Pool (MDisk Group).

    Regards, Uwe

    Hi @Uwe Schreiber
                                        Thanks for your answer. I got it now, that means , it will create a new mdisk with a raid configuration , but it will be in a same pool  and will be shown by esxi as a same pool with a increased stockage.

    Thanks you very much for your answers.

    Hi Viresh,

    yes, the newly created mdisk will show up in the pool and the size of the pool as well as the free capacity will increase.

    In case of creating new vdisks or increasing the size of existing vdisks, the additional mdisk capacity will get used.

    Further more, the intra tier balancing alghorithm of the storage may migrate extents from the existing mdisk to the new mdisk for load balancing purposes.

    Regards, Uwe

    @Uwe Schreiber

                                   Thank you very much for this help. I have already pass the request to purchase the disks.  I have on last question. Is this expansion will not affect the existing pool ? Because i have more than 5O virtual machines running in the prod.

    Advance thanks .

    Hi Viresh,

    the expansion of the pool by adding a new array / mdisk will not touch the existing array / mdisk.

    What will haben after some time, you may notice that extents got migrated from the existing array / mdisk to the new array / mdisk.

    This is done by the intra tier pool balancing alghorithm included in the Flashsystem code and is a normal behaviour (works as designed).

    Regards,  Uwe
