Does the following only apply if that lpar of IBM owns that adapter?  IOW, if the adapter serves up ethernet to multiple LPARs of IBM i and AIX via VIOS hosting, is the PTF not needed?

It looks like they list only physical adapters (CCIN found on https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/power9?topic=adapters-adapter-details and https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/power10?topic=adapters-adapter-details). If I remember fine, a virtual adapter reports with a 268C resource type, not in the list. And, I wonder how a virtual adapter would require recovery? So my feeling is that the PTFs are not relevant when using virtual ethernet through a VIOS. But that's only my opinion :-)

    Hi Robert

I believe you only need patch the operating system that owns the adaptors,  not in the guest.  My rational is that the adaptor would generally be given an alternate CCIN when virtualised the client LPAR.

But if your workloads is vital, there is no harm checking with support or even applying the patch
