  • 1.  Drill Down in a Stacked Column Chart

    Posted Thu August 01, 2019 10:28 AM

Update: Devon's response got me closer, but I'm still a tad short of the finish line. I'm able to get the drill report to pop up, but can't get it to show quite what I want it to yet. In this particular example I'm wanting to click on say the green block on IT Core Operations and that show the Priority 5 tickets for IT Core Operations, however the closest I can get it is show priority 5 tickets for all the pillars rather than just IT Core. I've tried all of the different options under the "Filters" section with no luck. And it's the same on the table and the chart.

    ---

Is it possible to have a drill down on a stacked column chart? We're working on a Divisional Overview dashboard for our leadership team that pulls in high level metrics for different areas such as financials, labor, projects, operations, etc. One of the charts we have is a stacked column chart seen in the first screenshot that shows ticket volume by priority for each of our pillar domains. I have created a report to use for a drill down that will show some of the ticket details for whichever area you click on, and I've set it as the drill for the chart as shown in the second screenshot. However, after setting it up and saving, when I try to click on one of the columns, nothing happens. I can recreate the same basic information in a table and have it drill down, which makes me wonder if there's just some fundamental disconnect with stacked column charts and drill downs.

Hi @Justin Nichols, not sure about R12, but I have run into this issue in R11.

In R11, unfortunately, drills do not work on stacked bar/column charts.  However, I have had success with drills on regular bar/column charts and pie charts.

    Good luck!

    Hi @Justin Nichols,

Create a report table with 1, 2,3,etc being the columns. Then create the drill for each column while all the data is still in table format. After the drills are created, use "ad hoc" in the ribbon to change the table into a stacked bar. I've done this successfully with a regular bar chart, but haven't tried with the stacked. In theory though, it should work. Finally, just be mindful of how you have your x and y setup. Basically you want the 'ad hoc' stacked bar conversion to be the last change you make. Hope this helps. Let me know if it works with the stacked bar!

Just following the question/answers as we will use this in custom reports as well sooner or later (@Pieter van Dam, @Lucas Wolters)

BTW, not tried the solution reported by @Devon Bilsing but is looks like the key to succes.

Trying to get this to work to no avail so far. I was trying to do exactly what @Justin Nichols described earlier on.
I set up the drill-down column in the table format, but when I convert it to a chart, it does not work. I have tried columns, stacked columns and lines. No luck.
What the engine does when I click is hiding or showing the object in the chart. I guess this no longer works in 12.9.7.
