Hi David,
Here's a list (may not be comprehensive) that highlights main differences between DNG and Classic DOORS:
- Web interface for users and administration (vs client server and DWA)
- Based on commercial database and application server (vs proprietary database)
- Artifact types with specific attributes (vs plain objects) defined at project level (vs module level)
- Artifacts are not property of a module, can be included/reused in different modules (vs an object belongs to a module)
- Artifact templates
- Project templates (vs copy folder with modules)
- Lock artifact when editing it (vs shareable edit mode)
- Global configuration management (vs baselines/baseline sets)
- Cross-module, cross-project reporting using dashboards and JRS
- Notifications using dashboards
- Suspect links profiles
- Available in SaaS (the complete CLM Solution)
DNG has now the main IBM innovation focus. Classic DOORS will continue to be maintained and supported for a long time.
If I was starting a new project or requirements initiative, my choice would be DNG. If you have legacy requirements and/or big DXL code base, the decision is not so straightforward. In that case, you have to take into acccount a few topics such as training, data and code migration, infrastructure...
Kind regards
Oskar
