Does WAS 8.0 end support in April 2018? We are on 8.5.5.11 I believe. Does this mean we need to upgrade to version 9 by April 2018?

WAS 8.0 has an end of support (EOS) for April 2018 because of the EOS for Java 6.

WAS 8.5 also supports Java 7 and Java 8. So you are not hit by that EOS if you are on Java 7 or Java 8.

If you are using WebSphere Application Server V8.5 with Java SE 6, then there will no longer be support for the Java SE 6 version after April 2018. Similarly, for users of WebSphere Application Server V8.5 with Java SE 7 or Java SE 7.1, support for the Java SE 7.x versions will be discontinued after September 2019.

I believe you can purchase a  "Support Extension" also if you can't upgrade by the EOS date:

    http://www-304.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21298463

However, you are on "WAS 8.5.5.11". EOS is for JRE 6 only, so you don't necessarily need to upgrade to WAS 9 - WAS 8.5.5 supports JRE 6,7,8. So you could just install JRE 7 (EOS Sept 2019) or JRE 8 (EOS April 2022).

tWAS v7 and v8 EOS is April 2018.  v8.5.5 EOS date has not been announced yet, so no need to upgrade.  You can upgrade v9 if you want to use the JEE 7.

    Hi,

Maybe my question is a little bit of topic:

We run Websphere Commerce Server(WCS) Enterprise on WAS 7 on Linux on Power platform. Does this mean that IBM support for WCS 7 also stops at April 2018 ?

    thanks

    Bernard

No, this doen't mean WCS 7 will be out of support in April 2018. This product has a different lifecycle than WAS. You can check this product in the following link:

    Best regards.
