  • 1.  Decoupling MWS (My webMethods Server) from the webMethods Integration Platform (on-premise)

    Posted Wed March 05, 2025 04:19 PM

This information will be the most interesting to people who have been working with webMethods on-premise platform for awhile. It relates to the server/portal called My webMethods Server (MWS).
Some people are not aware that MWS can be decoupled from the on-premise webMethods Integration platform as of v10.11 in many cases. For exceptions and more information, see below.
By the way, I created the webMethods Integration Administrator v10.11 course, so this is why this is burned into my memory :)

πŸ“° With the release of on-premise webMethods Integration Platform v10.11, MWS is no longer a mandatory component (for most use cases). This change significantly simplifies deployments and reduces infrastructure overhead.

Here's what you need to know:
MWS is no longer required as of v10.11, unless your integration solution is using any of the following on-premise webMethods products:

    • webMethods Active Transfer
    • webMethods BPM (Business Process Management)
    • webMethods CAF (Composite Application Framework)
    • webMethods Optimize
    • webMethods Trading Networks (TN)

If your integration use case does not include these components, you no longer need to install and manage MWS server/portal ! πŸŽ‰ (see note below about security in IS Admin UI)

πŸ”Ή Common Directory Services (CDS) UI added to IS Admin UI as of v10.11
    * CDS (Common Directory Services) can be managed through the MWS UI, however, as of on-prem wM 10.11, a new CDS UI was introduced within IS Admin UI, providing a more streamlined experience for managing authentication providers like LDAP.

⚠️ Important Note: While the MWS UI is no longer required for CDS, the MWS database tables are still needed for CDS to function.

πŸ”Ή Trading Networks (TN) UI Migration (🎢 I heard it through the grapevine 🎢)
    * From what I heard recently, the IBM wM R&D team are considering replacing the TN UI that is within MWS with a deployable version of the wM.io B2B cloud solution or to pull TN UI from MWS and redo the UI. Nothing specific is planned yet.

πŸ”Ή More Monitoring and Data Management in IS Admin UI as of v10.11
    * New Monitoring Tab in IS Admin UI replaces MWS monitoring for IS integrations.
    * Data Management Tab provides tools for log archiving and deletion, previously available only in MWS.

πŸ‘ What This Means for You (if you work with the webMethods on-premise integration platform v10.11 and above)
    * Less dependency on MWS, reducing complexity and resource consumption.
    * Streamlined administration, with more features moving to IS Admin UI.
    * Faster, more efficient deployments without unnecessary components.

Notes: this info was originally posted by me to LinkedIn here: https://www.linkedin.com/posts/wayneleishman_domain-request-csc-activity-7302431181503926272-pHbN?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop&rcm=ACoAAAABr2kBnw7JL417eSdys_YmdaH1xttq9vM

Note: Sylvain LAGRABETTE  added a comment to my LinkedIn post asking "If you want a user to access only the resubmit process function, is it possible without granting access to the other functions on the IS admin page?". I am trying to find this out. If anyone knows post the answer here. This type of security can be done in MWS, but the point is to do away with MWS if not needed. It be possible to use the IS Admin API to do resubmits but I'm not sure if this is supported yet.

    Hi Wayne,

actually you do not need MWS for using Active Transfer anymore, this was alreday decoupled in 10.5. The complete active Transfer UI and even the central user management is available as Ui in Integration Server (You still need some MWS tables in the database as you mentioned).

    Regards

    Martin

Hi @Martin Wroblinski and @Wayne Leishman

Thanks for your details was an interesting info indeed.

We have IS Version 10.15 at our end. While we can see CDS tab in the IS UI, can you suggest where can we see the Active Transfer tab in the UI?

The Active Transfer UI is not part of the IS UI but is available via

    http://<host>:9100 or https://<host>:9102

More details and how to change the port can be found in the Documentation:

    managing-file-transfers-with-active-transfer.pdf

    in the section

2 Configuring ActiveTransfer - Accessing ActiveTransfer New User Interface
