  • 1.  Datasource connection is not used!

    Posted 4 days ago

    Hi,

In Cognos Analytics v12.0.4 FP1, I have created one datasource DW_TST. For this datasource, I have 2 connections DW_FRA and DW_ITA.
I have 2 security groups, FRA and ITA. Both have access to DW_TST.

The DW_FRA dataSourceConnection is only available to security group FRA.
The DW_ITA dataSourceConnection is only available to security group ITA.

I've created a new data module based on the following connection:
In Data Server connection, DW_TST is the default (not modified) value. In Catalog, DW_FRA is the default (not modified) value.

When I open this data module, I have a dialog box asking to choose a connection for 'DW_TST' data source, I can choose either DW_FRA either DW_ITA.

If I choose ITA, it is weird because the 'Show query information…" option for a table do NOT display anything related to DW_ITA connection, only DW_FRA!

I can reproduce the same issue with a report. I don't understand why the datasource connection is not used in this case.

    Best regards,

    Hi Patrick,

I'm sorry, I did a mistake in the other thread. Now I remember that in production we were still using a FM package where the database connection could easily be overwritten.
In data modules the database connection is fixed on first saving (for whatever reason this might be good for). In data modules you can only overwrite the data server connection (= database) or the catalog (if applicable) or the schema.
Maybe it is possible the you set up multiple data server connections for ITA and FRA with one database connection ("default") each? For an administrator's access who needs to use both connections, you could override the data server connection with the help of a prompt macro instead of a fix value.

    Best regards,
    Philipp
