I´ve moved one (has to be said small) data centre. My advice to you would be to label everything especially the cables be it fibre or IP with each slot / port they should be connected to. For example label server end of the fibre cable with the port number and server name and the switch end with the port number and switch name. The same goes with the storage. Keep a spreadsheet with these details in case any labels fall off.

Do this and you should avoid any problems as long as you switch things off / on in the right order. Most problems caused by data centre moves are caused by poor planning and you should see good labling as part of that. Also back up everything before you switch off anything.

Data centre moves are a lot of stress for the work you actually do.

    Good luck!!!

Thank you thank you. Really appreciate it. Noted with many thanks. Is going to be our big exercise this year.
The principal (IBM, HP) will do the relocation and we (customer) will team up with them during the pre, during and post relocation ie performance baseline, capture servers information, standby servers and spare partes etc.

we are going to relocate the SAN storage, san swicthes, network infra, multi-platform servers (LPARs, standalone servers).
    hv a nice day
