  • 1.  CSDK free site and the Developer Edition Free site

    Posted Wed December 08, 2021 12:07 PM
    All,

There have been a number of complaints, some privately made, some public here on the Community page, about access to the Informix free sites and the number of them (specifically 2 sites as opposed to one). This is in relation to the marketing and so forth that you encounter when you get to each of these sites. Access is sometimes an issue as well. We do not directly control the access to or the marketing of the site. We are discussing the marketing aspect separately, with no result to date.

However, we have determined that it would be possible to consolidate the two sites as one and reduce the clicks and marketing by half. We would be able to move all of the CSDK files to the Developer Edition site and then eventually take down the CSDK site. Obviously, as part of this project, there are also a number of IBM and possibly other sites with links to the CSDK site that would have to change.

During the move, there are some older CSDK files in varying quantities by release that are on the CSDK site which we are contemplating permanently removing from the system. These are listed as follows:

    clientsdk.2.81.FC3.LINUX-IA64.tar.Z
    clientsdk.2.81.UC3.LINUX-I32.tar
    clientsdk.2.81.UC3.SOL.tar
    clientsdk.2.90.FC4R1.LINUX.tar
    clientsdk.2.90.FC4R1.SGI.tar
    clientsdk.2.90.TC6.WIN.zip
    clientsdk.2.90.UC4R1.LINUX.tar
    clientsdk.3.00.FC3DE.LINUX.tar
    clientsdk.3.00.FC3DE.WIN.zip
    clientsdk.3.00.TC3DE.WIN.zip
    clientsdk.3.00.UC3DE.LINUX.tar
    clientsdk.3.50.FC9.AIX5L.tar
    clientsdk.3.50.FC9.dmg
    clientsdk.3.50.FC9.LINUX.tar
    clientsdk.3.50.FC9.SOL.tar
    clientsdk.3.50.FC9.SOLx86.tar
    clientsdk.3.50.FC9.WIN.zip
    clientsdk.3.50.FC9DE.LINUX.tar
    clientsdk.3.50.FC9DE.SOL.tar
    clientsdk.3.50.FC9DE.WIN.zip
    clientsdk.3.50.TC9.WIN.zip
    clientsdk.3.50.TC9DE.WIN.zip
    clientsdk.3.50.UC9.dmg
    clientsdk.3.50.UC9.LINUX.tar
    clientsdk.3.50.UC9DE.LINUX.tar

    Hi,

Good idea but I would keep the old files as well in case someone needs them.

I do not understand why vendors drop old binaries they do not take up much space!

    Regards,

    David.

    Thanks David.

Do you know of anyone specifically that would use any of these? We have been asking around privately .......

Well I do know a large company that lost the ability to compile a very old version of Online on SCO that need they need for one of their customers.   So let them have a copy I had laying around. The large company was IBM obviously

    Cheers

    Paul

    Scott:

I agree that a single location for all of the free packages will reduce confusion and make it easier for folks to find what they need.
