    Queries I have:

    1. Steps to create an LPAR?

    2. Can anyone guide me on how to proceed to install the OS remotely. I want to install AIX 5.3 TL 05 through CD. If someone onsite loads the CD, can I install the OS remotely by opening the Virtual Terminal?

    3. How will the HMC Communicate to the LPAR when there is no OS installed on the LPAR?

And also I am planning for a DR Site. So, I planned for Storage(ESS - DS8000) date copy using some tools available in the market like PPRC. Can anyone suggest which is the best one to do the data copy from one DS box to another. Both DS boxes are of same model.. i.e., DS8000 but at different locations.

I am a little confused... are you saying you want to overwrite the AIX 6.1 that is already on the LPAR with AIX 5.3? Or do you want to create a 2nd LPAR and install AIX 5.3 in it?

If it is number 1, then you already have the LPAR and you just boot it in SMS mode and install AIX 5.3. You do not need to recreate the LPAR. LPAR creation is independent of OS release.

If it is number 2, then the book that Orphy referenced is a good starting boot. You just need to create a 2nd LPAR and load the OS. Another reference for creating LPARs is the Information Center:

    Good luck.

I have a 10 minute "tutorial" that walks the user through the steps for creating an AIX LPAR that is using virtual I/O. The tutorial is creating an LPAR with virtual I/O vs the use of dedicated adapters. It would give you a feel for the steps. The tutorial was created for a class on IBM's Advanced Power Virtualization technology (now called PowerVM). The tutorial uses HMC ver 6. I also have one that uses HMC ver 7 but from your post I think you want the ver 6 tutorial.

If you think this tutorial would help, email me at bassemir@us.ibm.com
