Here is the official documentation to convert IVM managed Power8 to HMC managed Power8 :

I've done this operation long time ago on Power7, but I don't remember if I had to restore something after connecting the server to the HMC.
The thing you need to know is that the VIOS will disable IVM at startup if the Power is HMC managed.

2 LPAR AIX 7.2 (VIOS CLIENT) with rootvg on LV vSCSI into IVM
