  • 1.  Content Navigator Entry Templates for Past Documents

    Posted Thu April 13, 2023 12:28 PM

    Hello,

When enabling entry templates in our environment for any new document adding using them we see the logic being performed in the add window, the viewer, and the search when editing properties. However, for any old document, prior to entry templates being enabled, the logic from the entry template is not enabled which has been tested for a doc type that has both old and new. Read only fields aren't read only, regex not enforced on fields, ect... What needs to be done to enable entry templates for these older documents? Any direction would be appreciated, thank you.

You have to set the entry template id in the documents properties otherwise the document doesn't know about it.

When you create a document using this entry template this is done automatically.

    Kind regards,

Would that be in the same table as the document or is there a separate referenced table? I'm assuming this isn't on the ICN side as I do not see a way to do it there.

    Thank you,

These are the properties 'Entry template Id' and 'Entry Template Object Store Name' and they already present in the Document root class. Those are technical items and are set hidden, that are not meant for an end user to be seen.

If it is a handful of documents you might do it manually in ACCE, if it is more than that a sweep job is in order...

    Hope this helps,

    Gerold

It's a lot of documents and we're not on FileNet, so without sweep jobs would we just be running db2 queries to update or is there a better way to mass update documents?

    Thanks,

    Hi,

sorry, didn't come across the idea that you could be running something else than FileNet as the backend.

While my first statement (about updating the documents) might still hold true, my proposed solutions does not.

Someone with Content Manager or CMOD know-how has to jump in.

    Kind regards,

    /Gerold

    James

What type of repository are you using?

Are the documents filed in a folder? If so, have you tried associating an entry template with the folder? This might force the use of an entry template the next time the documents are checked out/checked in.

If you are using CM8, then Gerold's idea might also work. For CM8 the property to look for on the itemtype is EntryTemplateId
