  • 1.  Contacts deleted from native Apple contacts app

    I now have a handful of users who are reporting that contacts that they have entered only in the native Apple contacts app are getting deleted. The only thing in common that we can find is that the entry is "similar" to an entry that would come from their work contact (Outlook) files.  For example, one user HAD an entry in the native contact app on her phone for one of her district directors. This was a personal entry that included such things as birthdays, spouse, kids names, home address and phone, etc. There was (and still is) the entry that is coming from Outlook via MaaS 360 from our Active Directory listing which of course doesn't include any of the personal information. We are unable to explain why, how or if MaaS 360 deleted the entry. She has lost several dozen other entries as well. Fortunately she is backed up to iCloud and could restore the entries but only to have them be deleted again. Our environment if very "vanilla", only company provided devices, only Apple products so perplexed why everyone isn't having the same issue as well as why it is happening.  Thank you for your thoughts.     Hi Robert,

    Thanks for letting us know this problem. I would suggest to raise a support ticket for this to start investigation. We would require the below detail to investigate. 

    Do you have the restriction on for restricting content from managed app to unmanaged app? Does it delete all the outlook contacts in the address book or does partially?

    Assuming that you are using the native iOS mail and contact apps, most likely what is happening is that they have selected the AD or corporate address book only and it is not displaying their personal contacts.  I have taught my staff to not use the contact list on the iPhone but to use their Outlook contact list so that everything syncs.  On the iPhone if you go into Contacts, tap the link at the top that says "Groups" and this will show you which contact lists are being displayed.

    ​Thanks Rebecca, I take the same approach with our users to make their entries in Outlook (or MaaS360) so they stay in sync, however, they do still keep "personal" information in the native App and previously this has not been an issue that anything entered in the native iPhone App was more or less isolated from MaaS360. I'm still not ruling out user error either, some of my folks get "swipe happy" trying to clean up duplicates...... Did ask the three folks I'm having issues with to check their Groups, I had forgotten about that and appreciate that reminder!
