I tried connecting to a web service from internet in wm 7.1. It gave the error java.net.connectException.

My system in under the LAN. Do i need to configure the proxy for it ?

Your post does not provide enough information to allow us to do more than guess. Could be firewall issues, incorrect host name or port in the URL, IS server being down when you were attempting your test or many other things.

Typically, your organization’s network administrators would need to configure a firewall rule to allow traffic from outside the company to reach an internal server.
