Does anyone know of any free Cobol Migration tools?   I would like to migrate VS Cobol II programs to Enterprise Cobol.  I would prefer a batch tool to allow all the programs within our library to be converted at one time.  I am surprised that IBM does not offer their batch conversion tool, a part of CCCA, for free or at reduced cost since they have a stake in the longevity of the IBM software and hardware and since the newer compilers exploit the new IBM hardware.

CCCA is included in IBM Debug for z/OS product.

How do you invoke the IBM Debugger in TSO?  I tried CEETEST, but it abended with a 0C4.

I've not used it, but isn't CCCA generally for converting from OS/VS COBOL to VS COBOL II (and beyond)?  Most COBOL II programs should compile with no changes with any version of Enterprise COBOL.

    Our programs are VS Cobol.

Your original post says "VS Cobol II".  The options are "OS/VS COBOL" (very old, 70s COBOL) and "VS COBOL II" (80s COBOL).  Which is it?

OK, then CCCA does make sense.  I don't know of any free tool.  When we did our migration in the late 90s we just did it "by hand".

Thank you.   I know there are some companies that had developed edit macros to assist with the conversion.   I saw one in the post below but have so far have been unable to obtain one.   It would be helpful for the Cobol Community if a company eventually made one available online.   The company in the thread below, First Data, seems to have developed an edit macro to assist with their conversion.

    Hi Patrick,

IBM currently doesn't offer tools that allow for automatic migration due to the complicated and case-by-case nature of the migration. However, IBM offers the following to help you with your migration:
    - Automatic Binary Optimizer for z/OS, which can let your older programs take advantage of new hardware to get a performance boost, without the need for recompiling
    - COBOL Migration Assistant interactive tool
    - Regular interactive webinars
    - Migration Guide

Thanks for sharing the First Data edit macro, and please let us know if you have any specific questions about migration.

    Thanks,
    Nicole
