My team leader ask me to pass the AIX 6.1 sys admin and another test to be certified support expert.

I am very scared to failed them. even if I worked many years (7year) on AIX and pseries. I didnt much of a lot of installation or upgrade OS or using new technologie as we can't.

I know AIX etc but you know on daily basis I use man of the command I dont know all the command by heart only the one we use daily errpt, lslpp, oslevel etc you know what I mean

I saw on sample example some questions that I am absolutly not capable of knowing the answer... I am wondering how they came up with those questions ? in reality we never use those type of command for example this one
Which command can be used to show volume group information about filesystems and OS levels for a specified mksysb called server1.mksysb?
    A.lsmksysb -lf server1.mksysb
    B.restore -mrT server1.mksysb
    C.listbackup -fT server1.mksysb
    D.listvgbackup -l server1.mksysb
    Answer: A

have you ever used or new about the lsmksysb command ? Seriously if the test is in majority with this kind of question I am so xxxxxd!

If some of you have pass the AIX 6.1 what do you think I should work on the most regarding my skills on the latest technologies is not unfortunately at the level of others as I didnt use any NVID config virtualization (really no idea of the new vritualization) or WPAR etc

I am just very not comfortable and if I failed that will be very bad for me and my career and today finding a job is not easy!

Reading all the redbooks will be too much - if you can let me know which one need to be looked at to prepare for this exam will be very cool

Yes, the tests have questions for obscure things that most people will never use. I would love to get rid of those questions and replace them with some kind of troubleshooting instead.

I did the AIX cert a long long time ago and I didn't know all the topics back then (still don't know a few of them NOW!) but I did go through the AIX Cert Redbooks and cross reference unfamiliar topics with more AIX docs. After 1 week of that, if I remember correctly, I was able to pass without any issue. In fact, I don't remember the AIX one being difficult at all, it's all the HACMP scenario questions that made me kept saying "Pickle!" but I fortunately passed that one too! I actually like studying for exams since that gives you a very good incentive to learn new topics that you don't deal every day.

So, relax! Just go through the Redbooks and hit the test. If you have that many years of AIX experience, you should be fine. Give yourself some confidence!

    Redbooks
    IBM Test Preperation
AIX Commands, Tools, Scripts and Explanations

If you do some more searching you should be able to find all you need
