    Also when I try to touch this file into the directory and give the same command it deletes the touched .toc. I currently have root access to the box and trying to install some software via "smit" which required the .toc file to start the installation.

    Any idea what the problem might be.?

    Can you move the files to another directory (let's say in /tmp) and run the inutoc command from there?
