Background:
Was expecting IBM on-site to perform maintenance on a P570. The P570 runs 2 VIO servers, which in turn provided virtual resource for a further 5 servers. All VIO client servers were shutdown cleanly from the OS (AIX 5.3 ml 5), but the maintenance was postponed so the servers were restarted. All came back OK except one, which hung at code 517. Having Google'd the error, it sems that there is an issue with mounting /root or /usr

I have tried:
- booting from alternative disk - didn't work
- booting from NIM into maintenance shell, fsck'ing all root vols and restarting - didn't help
- booting from NIM into maintenance shell, fsck'ing all root vols, replacing /etc/filesystems with default copy from boot image, removing /etc/exports - didn't help

In maintenance mode, I seem to be able to access the rootvg without issue.

Any ideas?

You didn't say but did you use the -y with your fsck and reformat your log(hd8), right?
I would share my old notes but I found these for you if you hadn't found it yet yourself. I know you did most of the steps but review back through just to be sure.

I didn't use the "-y" flag when running fsck, so have rebooted into maintenance mode and rerun. Everything came back clean, the same as earlier.
I did clear the jfs log though.

Rebooted using "shutdown -Fr", still no luck :o(

You have fsck all FS, logform de LOG and all no look.
The rootvg disks are mirrored ??
Exchange the bootlist between two rootvg disks.
Execute bosboot -a and try again.
The VIO server looks good this disks ??
Have you watched the progress of the LEDs to know where it stay ? In the HMC,
properties for this LPAR, you can see the Reference Code progress, and can see
where it has gone.
